"For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23) "There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one."(Romans 3:10-12) "All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away."(Isaiah 64:6)
Because you are a sinner, you can never achieve heaven on your own. You deserve hell, but God in His mercy has provided a way to escape it. "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life. For God did not send His son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. Whoever believes in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because He has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son." (John 3:16-18)
God sent His son, Jesus Christ, into the world. Jesus lived a perfect life, He never sinned. But because He loved us, He gave His life in place of ours, dying on the cross for our sins. "Blessed are thy whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never count against Him." (Romans 4:7-8)
In order to escape hell, we must believe in Jesus Christ and live a new life. "He then brought them out and asked, 'What must I do to be saved?' They replied, 'Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved--you and your household." (Acts 16:30-31) "For by grace you are saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9) "That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord', and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."(Romans 10:9) "For, 'Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'"(Romans 10:13) "Jesus answered, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."(John 14:6)
We must repent of our sins and turn from them, asking God to help you to obey him. "Jesus replied, 'If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him."(John 14:23)
